Take your navigation skills to the next level with this two-day intermediate journey through Victoria’s spectacular High Country.

Under the guidance of our experienced instructors, you’ll take the lead navigating real routes in alpine terrain while refining your map and compass confidence in varied terrain and conditions.

What to Expect

Your adventure begins with a quick revision and practical refresh of core navigation skills before heading into the mountains.

Over two days, you’ll cover around 15 km per day through moderately challenging alpine terrain. The two days will have a strong focus on route planning, map to ground and resections. Participants will be shown and asked to create nav data sheets in the field for their journey using the tools and tricks that professional guides use to safely plan and execute routes.

Where:

The program starts and finishes just outside of Falls Creek Resort. There is free camping available near our start point for the evening before if required.

Minimum Fitness Requirements

This course involves hiking in alpine conditions, carrying a 10–15 kg pack over uneven ground with variable weather.

 Participants should have:

  • A moderate level of fitness and be able to hike up to 15 km per day with elevation gain
  • Confidence moving on rocky, uneven, or steep trails
  • The ability to carry a loaded pack for several hours
  • A positive attitude and willingness to work as part of a navigation team

Prerequisites

Completion of our Intro Level One Navigation Course (or equivalent) is required.

Participants must be self sufficient with their own hiking and camping gear.
